Be brave with me. Let's open our hearts, together.

Be brave with me. Let's open our hearts, together.

I keep hearing this common theme from clients lately: the ways that I've always tended to myself in times of stress just aren't working for me anymore. Perhaps this is because we simply can't handle it all on our own. We need each other. It's how we are wired.

See below for details on Couples Coaching, as well as Partnered Breathwork & Ecstatic Dance happening this weekend...lovely opportunities to tend to our nervous systems, tender hearts, and practice skills to strengthen all of our relationships.

Recently, my partner Josh and I were out of town at a weekend retreat. Something unsettling happened in a group experience that caused us distress and we were disagreeing bigtime about how to handle it. We considered leaving the retreat all together. This felt like a crummy option. I remember feeling tight, confused, and overwhelmed - freeze mode. So, I had a little motivational chat with myself, took a deep long breath and vulnerably leaned in to Josh (super scary to do in that moment of disconnect) and asked him to be brave with me. Be brave with me. He accepted my invitation and the rest of our time together was so much sweeter and I truly feel this moment impacted our entire relationship.

It's a brave act to soften and be vulnerable with other humans - and perhaps the bravest with those we are closest to. The greater the connection, the greater the risk of hurt or loss - as well as greater opportunity for love and care. Let's practice opening our hearts together. Harm is inevitable in relationships. Most often it's unintentional and it happens. We step on each others toes, just trying to be ourselves and getting our own needs met. We can reduce the impact as we learn how to lean into connection through the painful moments.

Love softens us. Love makes us brave.
